On April 16, 2025, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Nurlan Yermekbayev, delivered a video to the participants of the plenary session of the International Forum "SCO 2030: Path to Sustainable Development," taking place in Omsk, Russian Federation.
The Secretary-General emphasized the priority of sustainable development themes on the SCO agenda. He noted that following the meeting of the leaders of the member states of the Organization in Astana in 2024, the current year was declared the Year of Sustainable Development for the SCO, reflecting the collective determination to strengthen cooperation in this area.

Nurlan Yermekbayev highlighted the key areas of the SCO's work in sustainable development, including environmental protection, "green" economy, combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, rational use of natural resources, poverty reduction, improving the healthcare system, and enhancing the quality of life.
The Secretary-General expressed confidence that the Forum will make a significant contribution to the implementation of the tasks of the Year of Sustainable Development for the SCO and will serve as an important platform for exchanging experiences. This will enable effective solutions to be developed and open new opportunities for the sustainable development of our countries and the global community as a whole.
