On 19 March 2025, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev, currently on an official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, laid flowers at a memorial honouring the siege of Leningrad.

The memorial is dedicated to the siege of Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War and to the Kyrgyz families who took in children evacuated from Leningrad in 1942.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, with numerous current SCO member states contributing to it.

That same day, the SCO Secretary-General met with ambassadors of several SCO member states and SCO dialogue partners accredited in the Kyrgyz Republic.
