On March 18, 2025, in Bishkek, during an official visit to Kyrgyzstan, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Nurlan Yermekbaev, held a conversation with the Minister of Internal Affairs of the country, Ulan Niyazbekov.
The Secretary-General spoke about the work and achievements of the SCO mechanisms in maintaining peace, security, and stability in the region. It was noted that, against the backdrop of growing international instability and turbulence, the organization pays unremitting attention to further enhancing cooperation, including through the ministries of internal affairs and public safety.
The Minister congratulated the Secretary-General on his recent appointment. He informed about the steps taken by Kyrgyzstan to interact and exchange information in the fight against transnational organized and cybercrime, terrorism, illegal drug trafficking, human trafficking and weapons, and assured his readiness to facilitate deepening cooperation between the SCO member states in the field of security to improve mechanisms for countering challenges and threats.
The parties exchanged views on the prospects for establishing a Center for Countering International Organized Crime of the SCO in Bishkek, on improving the overall mechanism for countering challenges and threats in general, on the possibility of holding the next Meeting of Ministers of Internal Affairs of the SCO member states, as well as on the issue of simplifying visa procedures for citizens of the Organization's member states.
