On March 18, 2025, upon the arrival of the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Nurlan Yermekbaev, for an official visit to Bishkek, he held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Jeenbek Kulubaev.

An in-depth exchange of views took place on a wide range of issues on the SCO agenda, including activities during the PRC's presidency in the Organization, topics related to its modernization and improvement, and enhancing cooperation in the course of the "Year of Sustainable Development of the SCO" announced by the leaders of the member states.
The Secretary-General congratulated the Kyrgyz colleagues on the signing of the Treaty on the State Border with Tajikistan, noting the significance of this document as a valuable contribution to peace, security, and stability in the Organization's territory.

Nurlan Yermekbaev expressed gratitude to the Kyrgyz side for its active role in promoting cooperation within the Organization. He highly appreciated the constructive proposals and initiatives put forward by them, including the establishment of a SCO Center in Bishkek for combating international organized crime, reducing trade barriers, strengthening regional cooperation in the field of digital technologies and youth policy, preserving mountain ecosystems, and developing a Roadmap for enhancing interaction among the member states with SCO dialogue partners. It was emphasized that the Secretariat will continue to make every effort to increase the practical returns from cooperation within the Organization.

The Minister, for his part, congratulated the Secretary-General on his recent appointment, assuring of maximum support to the Secretariat. In addition, Jeenbek Kulubaev talked about the work being carried out by the Kyrgyz side in preparation for high-level events under the Chinese presidency in the SCO, including the substantive content of the upcoming summit of the Organization in Tianjin. It was noted that considering the subsequent transition of the presidency in the Organization to Bishkek, the Kyrgyz side intends to vigorously address the tasks at hand for the benefit of the peoples of the member states.

The parties addressed the issues of modernizing the activities of the Organization, noting the need to improve its efficiency and enhance the practical return from the activities of specialized mechanisms for interaction between sectoral government bodies and organizations.
