On 14 March 2025, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Tajikistan Yusuf Rahmon in Dushanbe.
The Secretary-General congratulated his counterpart on signing the Treaty on the State Border with the Kyrgyz Republic and on his recent appointment as Secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan.

Nurlan Yermekbayev noted Tajikistan’s constructive contribution to promoting trust-based multifaceted cooperation on security issues within the SCO.
The Secretary-General highlighted the growing role of regional structures in ensuring international security, noting that the SCO possesses all the capabilities for an adequate and timely response to today’s cross-border challenges and threats.

In turn, the Security Council Secretary spoke about the country’s priorities within the SCO aimed at promoting dialogue on security, jointly combatting terrorism, separatism and extremism, drug trafficking and the illegal arms trade.
The parties also discussed the preparations for the next Meeting of the SCO Security Council Secretaries within China’s chairmanship and the establishment of the SCO Anti-Drug Centre in Dushanbe, as well as the creation of mechanisms to counter current security challenges and threats, and the development of a draft Agreement on Confidence-Building Measures in the military sphere.
