On 14 March 2025, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev visited the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The Academy’s Rector Davron Safarzoda informed Nurlan Yermekbayev about the work of the Academy, the SCO Friendship and Cooperation Centre in Tajikistan and the Emomali Rahmon Public Administration Centre.

The SCO Secretary-General addressed the Academy’s professors and lecturers, as well as activists from the Academy and both centres. His report was titled The SCO and Tajikistan: Enhancing Regional Cooperation. He noted that the SCO serves as a unique platform for coordinating positions and adopting agreed-upon solutions to current regional and global challenges.
It was emphasised that expanding practical collaboration between research and development institutes and humanitarian institutions would yield substantial economic benefits and enhance cultural and humanitarian cooperation within the Organisation.

Nurlan Yermekbayev praised the contribution of the SCO Friendship and Cooperation Centre in Tajikistan to promoting public and cultural diplomacy in the SCO region.
Following Nurlan Yermekbayev’s remarks, the meeting participants exchanged opinions on the prospects for involving the Academy of Public Administration and the SCO Friendship and Cooperation Centre in the SCO process, including the activities of the SCO Forum, the SCO Public Diplomacy Forum and the SCO Women’s Forum.

During the event, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev was awarded the title of Professor Honoris Causa by the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The Secretary-General thanked the leadership and participants for their attention and noted that the Academy and the Centres were fulfilling a highly noble mission aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and expanding cooperation in strengthening the Shanghai Spirit.
