On 14 March 2025, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev, who was in Tajikistan on an official visit.
Emomali Rahmon congratulated Nurlan Yermekbayev on assuming the position of the Organisation's Secretary-General.
The president emphasised that Tajikistan attaches great importance to its participation in the SCO and further deepening of multifaceted cooperation for the benefit of strengthening the Shanghai spirit.
The Secretary-General, in turn, congratulated the Republic of Tajikistan on the signing of the State Border Treaty with the Kyrgyz Republic.
Expressing gratitude to Emomali Rahmon for his constant attention to SCO affairs and active support of the Secretariat, Nurlan Yermekbayev informed the President about the preparations for the upcoming meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State, to be held in China.
The Secretary-General emphasised Tajikistan’s significant contribution to the SCO’s establishment and development.
During the meeting, the parties also touched upon the aspects of further deepening the political dialogue within the SCO, implementing Tajikistan’s initiatives, improving the mechanisms of cooperation in security and sustainable development, and stressed the need to implement practical projects in various areas.
