On 14 March 2025, during an official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev visited Dusti Square in Dushanbe to lay a wreath at the monument honouring Ismail Samani, the founder of Tajik statehood.

Later that day, the SCO Secretary General met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin.
The Foreign Minister congratulated Nurlan Yermekbayev on his appointment as SCO Secretary-General, highlighting the Organisation’s vital role in fostering trust-based political dialogue and enhancing cooperation on security matters.
Sirojiddin Muhriddin reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to strengthening collaboration in security, the economy, and trade to ensure the successful implementation of existing agreements.
SCO Secretary-General Meets with Foreign Minister of Tajikistan
The Secretary-General, in turn, congratulated the Republic of Tajikistan on signing the Treaty on the state border with the Kyrgyz Republic. He also expressed gratitude for Tajikistan’s continued support of the Organisation’s activities, emphasising the significance of adopting the Strategy for Economic Development until 2030 and its accompanying Action Plan, both initiated by the Tajik side. Additionally, he highlighted the launch of a cooperation mechanism for antimonopoly regulation and combatting unfair competition, which will provide a significant boost to trade and economic cooperation.
Nurlan Yermekbayev reaffirmed the SCO Secretariat’s commitment to supporting the implementation of mutually beneficial initiatives and enhancing cooperation within the Organisation.
