On 11-12 March 2025, SCO Deputy Secretary-General Piao Yangfan held working meetings with officials from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, namely Terrorism Prevention Branch Chief Roberto Arbitrio and Director of the Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs Candice Welsch. The meetings took place on the sidelines of the 68th Session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna.
The participants praised the SCO-UNODC side event held the day before, describing it as concrete and practically important. The event enabled an exchange of current information and ideas on how to combat online drug trafficking.
Roberto Arbitrio presented UNODC projects aimed at combating terrorism and drug crime, which are often interrelated in the modern world.
The parties exchanged considerations concerning potential joint events and agreed to maintain regular contacts.
