On 28 February 2025, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met in Beijing with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to China Parakhat Durdyev.
The Secretary-General informed his interlocutor about the SCO’s development priorities and noted Turkmenistan’s special status as a neutral state whose efforts were aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the region, something that was consonant with the principles of the Shanghai Spirit.
The Ambassador congratulated the Secretary-General on his recent appointment and expressed a high appreciation of the prospects for Turkmenistan-SCO cooperation. He conveyed an invitation from Chairperson of Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Forum of International Peace and Trust scheduled for 12 December 2025 in Ashgabat, expressing a hope that a high representative of the SCO Secretariat would attend the event.
The parties discussed current issues of mutual interest and agreed to maintain regular contacts.
