On 27 February 2025, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Piao Yangfan, who leads the SCO Observer Mission at the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Tajikistan, was received by Tajikistan’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Ismatullo Nasredin.
The First Deputy Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to the Mission for its participation in overseeing the electoral process, assuring that the Tajik side will exert all efforts to create favourable conditions for its work. He particularly highlighted the SCO’s burgeoning influence in international and regional affairs, as well as the dynamically evolving collaboration within the Organisation in areas such as politics, security, economy, and cultural-humanitarian exchanges. It was emphasised that Tajikistan is dedicated to comprehensively enhancing multifaceted cooperation within the SCO framework.

In turn, the Deputy Secretary-General conveyed appreciation to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for inviting the SCO Mission to observe the preparation and conduct of the parliamentary elections and for facilitating its operations. Piao Yangfan underscored the significance of this electoral cycle for Tajikistan’s political landscape and extended wishes for its successful implementation.
The country’s active role in promoting cooperation within the Organisation was also commended, alongside confidence that the SCO, guided by the principles of the “Shanghai Spirit,” will continue to play an increasingly pivotal role in upholding peace, stability, and fostering development across the Eurasian region.
