On 6 February 2025, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev was invited to take part in a session of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) during his official visit to India. The participants discussed the main theme of this session, Expanding economic cooperation in the SCO region: prospects of industrial development.
In his remarks, the Secretary-General noted that the Organisation had accumulated impressive economic and investment potential, along with a robust legal framework, and had launched multiple specialised cooperation mechanisms. He outlined current and future aspects of collaboration within the SCO, including in industry, transportation, energy, food security and the digital economy.

Nurlan Yermekbayev noted that India, with its well-developed heavy and light industries, could make a substantial contribution to implementing the programme aimed at incentivising industrial cooperation between SCO member states’ business circles by helping establish stable production and delivery chains. He emphasised the importance of involving Indian companies in the development of industry parks and trade and industrial clusters across various parts of the SCO region, as well as in promoting fairs and exhibitions.
The Secretary-General replied to questions from event participants regarding the state and prospects of investment, energy, transport and logistics cooperation within the Organisation’s framework.
