On 30 January 2025, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev had a conversation with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Kuwait to the People’s Republic of China Jasem Ibrahem Al-Najem, who was appointed to this position recently.
The two officials discussed opportunities to expand Kuwait-SCO ties within the framework of the memorandum granting Kuwait dialogue partner status.
His Excellency the Ambassador congratulated the Secretary-General on assuming his duties in this position and went on to praise the SCO for its international action, as well as the SCO’s growing authority in regional and global affairs. He also reaffirmed Kuwait’s interest as a dialogue partner in forging closer ties with the organisation and proactively contributing to cooperation within the framework it offers.
For reference: The SCO Heads of State Council passed a resolution on 16 September 2022 to grant the State of Kuwait dialogue partner status within the SCO. On 5 May 2023, a memorandum to this effect was signed during a Foreign Ministers Council meeting, which came into force on 7 November 2023.
