On 22 January 2025, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev. The meeting was held in Moscow as part of Yermekbayev’s visit to Russia.
Konstantin Kosachev congratulated Nurlan Yermekbayev on his appointment as SCO Secretary-General, reaffirming the Russian side’s firm resolve to actively participate in the SCO activities on all tracks, and provide all-out assistance to the organisation’s Secretariat.
The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council stressed the need to promote the ‘parliamentary dimension’ of the SCO, that is, to deepen inter-parliamentary ties within the organisation.
In turn, the SCO Secretary-General said the Secretariat was ready to provide maximum assistance in setting up and holding meetings between parliamentarians if the relevant decision of the SCO member states is made and specific mechanisms for its implementation are developed.
The parties exchanged views on a wide range of the SCO activities, including its political, security, and economic tracks, as well as ideas for improving the organisation’s work.
