On 14 January 2025, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with President of China International Communications Group (CICG, also known as China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration) Du Zhanyuan.
The Secretary-General spoke about the priorities and promising areas of cooperation within the SCO, as well as the results achieved. He highly appreciated CICG’s contribution to expanding cultural exchanges between the SCO member states, expressing the hope that the Chinese side will continue to hold various events as part of its current chairmanship of the SCO. Nurlan Yermekbayev assured that the Secretariat will provide the necessary assistance in this work and is also ready to explore CICG’s best practices of humanitarian exchanges.
Congratulating the Secretary-General on his recent appointment, Du Zhanyuan praised the unique role that the SCO is playing in improving international security, ensuring peace and supporting development. He stressed that CICG intends to fully support the work of the SCO and its Secretariat through sharing knowledge on promoting inter-civilisational dialogue.
After the conversation, Nurlan Yermekbayev toured the exhibition dedicated to CICG’s activities as well as the themed display “Explaining China to the World”.
