On 3 January 2025, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev had a meeting with Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the People’s Republic of China Shakhrat Nuryshev at the SCO Headquarters in Beijing.
Mr Nuryshev congratulated the Secretary-General on assuming his duties in this position and reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s unwavering support for the Secretariat as one of SCO’s founding members.
The two officials reviewed the SCO’s agenda as part of this year’s Chinese chairmanship and touched base on a wide range on cooperation-related matters, including politics and security, trade and economics, finances, culture and humanitarian affairs, as well as efforts to streamline SCO operations.
In his remarks, the SCO Secretary-General pointed out that he expects the SCO to develop in a proactive manner by building on its track record while also coming up with novel ideas and staying in step with the times.
