On 4-6 November 2024, a delegation of the SCO Secretariat led by Deputy Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev attended the 92nd session of the INTERPOL General Assembly, which was held in Glasgow, Great Britain.
The opening remarks were delivered by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, INTERPOL President Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, and INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock.
Jürgen Stock pointed out the importance of building up cooperation with regional associations, including the SCO.
On 5 November, Nurlan Yermekbayev took part in the third interactive panel titled Sustaining Multilateralism – An Integrated Global Security Architecture. Other speakers at that panel were the heads of the World Customs Organisation, the World Health Organisation and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The Deputy Secretary-General updated the participants on the main spheres of SCO’s operations and quoted from the Astana Declaration, which said that “interaction within the Organisation can serve as a basis for forming an equal and indivisible security architecture in Eurasia.” He also noted that the SCO advocated cooperation in accordance with the principles of the Shanghai Spirit. Meetings with the heads of INTERPOL, CARICOM, national delegations of INTERPOL member states and representatives of the diplomatic corps were held on the sidelines of the session.
