On 26 October 2024, the SCO Observer Mission (hereinafter Mission), which arrived in the Republic of Uzbekistan to observe the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kengashes of People’s Deputies scheduled for 27 October, began its work.
SCO Deputy Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev, who leads the Mission, held a working meeting for the observers representing the SCO member states. The delegation members got acquainted with the 2006 Regulation On the SCO Observer Mission at Presidential and/or Parliamentary Elections, as well as Referenda. It was emphasised that objectivity and impartiality, respect for the laws of the host country, assessment of the electoral process from the point of view of compliance with international obligations, national legislation and the inadmissibility of any comments on the election results, are the main principles of observation.
The Mission members analysed the materials on the activities of international observers prepared by the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan and discussed the work plan and distribution of groups that are to visit polling stations in Uzbekistan on the voting day.
Ahead of the voting, members of the SCO Observer Mission visited polling stations to assess the preparations for the upcoming elections and attended the briefing for international observers organised by the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
