On 31 August 2024, the SCO Observer Mission at the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan, scheduled for 1 September, held a working meeting.
The Mission head, Deputy SCO Secretary-General Nuran Niyazaliyev, reported on the SCO’s performance, aims and objectives. He also focused on the main points of the 2006 Regulations on the SCO Observer Mission at presidential and/or parliamentary elections and referenda. The Mission members discussed their work plan and assignments for the voting stations.
Nuran Niyazaliyev also had meetings with First Deputy CIS Secretary-General Leonid Anfimov and Chair of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus Igor Karpenko.
The parties noted the calm atmosphere in Azerbaijan ahead of the parliamentary election and a high level of organisation in the election process. They also expressed agreement between the SCO and the CIS on approaches and methods of election monitoring.
Throughout the day, the Mission members visited a number of voting stations in Baku and monitored the preparations for the ballot.
