On 6 July 2024, the state flag of the Republic of Belarus was hoisted in an impressive setting in front of the SCO Secretariat building, on the occasion of the country’s accession to the Organisation.
SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Belarus Maxim Ryzhenkov and Deputy Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China Chen Xiaodong spoke at the ceremony.
The meeting was attended by heads of diplomatic missions of SCO member states, observer states and dialogue partners, accredited in China, as well as representatives of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
In his remarks, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming warmly congratulated Belarus on joining the SCO and noted that its accession would help strengthen mutual trust and solidarity between member states, facilitate regional security and stability and create new opportunities for more profound cooperation in various spheres of SCO activities.
Note: The Republic of Belarus officially joined the SCO at the 24th SCO Heads of State Council Meeting on 4 July 2024 in Astana.
