On 28 June 2024, Astana hosted the 25th meeting of the SCO Business Council Board chaired by Kazakhstan.
During the event, the chairmen of the national sections of the Business Council from the SCO member states exchanged views on the prospects for strengthening cooperation between the business communities in the SCO space and heard a report on the platform’s activities over the past year.
In his welcoming video address to the meeting participants SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming emphasised the importance of promoting the healthy, efficient and sustainable development of international business cooperation within the framework of the Organisation's trade and economic agenda. He expressed confidence that the Business Council would continue to create favourable conditions for interaction between enterprises of the SCO member states.
On the same day, the Board held a business forum, which was attended by a broad range of representatives of companies and chambers of commerce and industry from the SCO countries. Advisor Iskander Baitasov addressed the meeting on behalf of the SCO Secretariat, highlighting the importance of implementing long-term trade programmes with the participation of entrepreneurs from SCO countries in trade, investments and technological development.
The SCO Business Council was established in 2006 as a non-governmental organisation that unites business and financial circles of the SCO member states. Its main objectives are to expand economic cooperation and develop direct ties and dialogue between business and financial circles of the SCO member states. The SCO Business Council Secretariat is located in Moscow.
