On 2 November 2023, the Kazakh Film Week kicked off in Beijing, as part of implementing the Joint Plan for Neighbourly Relations, Friendship and Cooperation between the SCO Secretariat, Kazakhstan’s Embassy in Beijing and the SCO Chinese Committee, for the duration of Kazakhstan’s SCO chairmanship in 2023-2024.
In his welcoming speech, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming noted the important contribution of cinematography and film festivals held under the SCO auspices to enriching the cultural agenda of the Organisation.
The Kazakh Film Week programme was opened by the Time of Patriots, a film devoted to a joint operation of the armed forces and national security agencies of Kazakhstan against an international terrorist group. The theme of the film reflects one of the most important areas of the SCO activities in the fight against the “three evils” (directed by Serikbol Utepbergenov, author of the idea – Nurlan Yermekbayev).
In total, seven full-length feature and animated films produced in Kazakhstan, representing various genres from historical to children’s films, will be screened as part of the event.
