On 11-13 September 2023, Shanghai hosted the Association of Law Universities forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a ceremony to establish the Association of SCO Countries’ Alumni, and the Forum for Training Skilled International Specialists, as part of events marking the 10th anniversary of the China-SCO International Judicial Exchange and Training Centre.
Attendees included representatives from major law universities in the SCO member states:
- Al-Farabi Kazakh National University;
- the Academy of Public Administration under the Aegis of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- Shanghai University of Political Science and Law (China);
- Gansu University of Political Science and Law (China);
- Northwest University of Political Science and Law (China);
- Peoples' Friendship University of Russia;
- Kutafin Moscow Law University;
- the Academy of Public Administration under the Aegis of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan;
- the Academy of Public Administration under the Aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus and others.
SCO Deputy Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev spoke at the forum and noted that cooperation in the law and judicial spheres was an integral part of diverse collaboration between the SCO member states, and an important way to deepen bilateral and multilateral relations. The SCO Deputy Secretary-General noted that it was now important to use various collaboration mechanisms and platforms for organising multiple events that have practical significance in the sphere of legal cooperation, including specialist exchanges and joint courses for training skilled law professionals in the context of the SCO’s distinguishing features.
Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Zhanseit Kanseituly Tuimebayev, suggested holding the regular Forum of the Association of Law Universities at Kazakh National University in Almaty next year.
