On 13 September 2023, Almaty, the Republic of Kazakhstan, hosted interdepartmental consultations of SCO member states on establishing an information security centre, based on the SCO’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan. Members of an SCO delegation headed by SCO Deputy Secretary-General Grigory Logvinov, took part in the meeting.
The Kazakhstani side submitted a concept for establishing the information security centre and additional considerations regarding its organisational structure, staffing, goals and tasks. The centre will quickly respond to emerging cybersecurity threats and protect the SCO region’s information space.
The participants conducted a mutually interested and substantive exchange of opinions while discussing the agenda, and signed a protocol based on the results of the meeting.
That same day, members of the SCO Secretariat delegation and experts from specialised agencies of the SCO member states took part in the work of the annual KazHackStan 2023 International Cybersecurity Conference, held on 13-15 September 2023 in Almaty.
In 2019, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev suggested establishing the information security centre at the SCO Heads of State Council Meeting in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz Republic.
