On 5 May 2023, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu on the sidelines of the SCO Foreign Ministers Council Meeting.
The officials exchanged opinions regarding the final stage of preparations for the SCO Heads of State Council Meeting in New Delhi and Kazakhstan’s upcoming SCO presidency.
Murat Nurtleu noted that Kazakhstan was devoting great attention to modernising the Organisation, in the context of the initiative voiced by President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the SCO Heads of State Council Meeting in Moscow in November 2020. Guided by a constructive approach, Kazakhstan intends to interact with all member states in its efforts to further improve the Organisation’s mechanism and reach a consensus as soon as possible.
In turn, Zhang Ming said the SCO Secretariat would invariably support the Kazakhstani presidency, and that it would coordinate the sides’ efforts to duly implement important mutual understandings to be reached by the heads of state. The SCO Secretariat will also help elevate intra-SCO interaction to a higher level, he added.
