On 15 September 2022, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming had a meeting with President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on the sidelines of the SCO Heads of State Council Meeting.
Zhang Ming highlighted the active involvement of Belarus in the Organisation’s activities as an SCO dialogue partner and observer state.
Alexander Lukashenko praised the Organisation’s role in regional and global affairs and expressed hope that it would approve Belarus’ application to become a full-fledged SCO member state.
In 2010, the Republic of Belarus obtained the status of an SCO dialogue partner and became an SCO observer state in 2015. In 2022, it applied for full-fledged SCO membership.
