On 13 March 2022, the SCO Observer Mission held a briefing in Ashgabat on the results of the presidential election in Turkmenistan held on 12 March 2022.
Akmaljon Kuchkarov, head of the SCO Observer Mission and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Turkmenistan, pointed out that the invitation of international observers to the election indicated Turkmenistan's desire to hold the election process in an open, transparent and democratic manner.
On 12 March 2022, SCO observers arrived at the polling stations in the Ashgabat and Ahal regions before opening time to monitor the inspection of documents and the sealing of ballot boxes.
The SCO observers note the high level of district election commissions' organisation, the voters' activity, and the efficiency of national and international observers.
Concluding the briefing, Ambassador Akmaljon Kuchkarov said that the election was held in accordance with the Constitution and the Election Code of Turkmenistan and other normative acts of the Central Election Commission.
Therefore, it was established that the election was open and transparent, and its results will promote the further development of democratic processes in Turkmenistan.
The briefing was attended by members of the SCO Observer Mission, observers from other international organisations, and members of the media.
