The SCO Council of National Coordinators Meeting (CNC) chaired by Uzbekistan has begun in Nukus, Republic of Karakalpakstan, part of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
At the opening of the SCO CNC, Prime Minister of Karakalpakstan Kakhraman Sariyev delivered a welcome speech. In his remarks, he noted that international events held in Nukus helped attract global attention to reforms in all spheres of the republic's socio-economic development.
The prime minister of Karakalpakstan praised the activities of the SCO as a reputable international organisation and thanked the SCO Observer Mission for their excellent work ahead of and during the presidential election in Uzbekistan on 24 October 2021.
The prime minister also wished the national coordinators fruitful work and expressed confidence that agreements reached following the meeting would make a significant contribution to promoting multilateral cooperation within the SCO.
During the event, the parties plan to exchange views on practical aspects of the implementation of Uzbekistan's initiatives aimed at further strengthening comprehensive cooperation within the SCO, as well as examine draft documents for the SCO Heads of Government Council Meeting scheduled to take place on 24-25 November 2021 in Nur-Sultan.
The parties are expected to discuss prospects for the organisation's further expansion, the draft plan of the SCO main events for 2022 and the programme of cooperation among foreign ministries of the SCO member states for 2022, as well as other issues related to the SCO's current activities.
The meeting will continue until 30 October 2021.
The SCO Council of National Coordinators coordinates the SCO's current activities and ensures cooperation between relevant ministries and agencies of the SCO member states.
Following the Dushanbe Summit on 17 September 2021, Tajikistan passed the SCO Presidency to Uzbekistan.

Nukus is the capital of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, part of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It is located in southern Karakalpakstan, on the right bank of the Amu Darya River, 800 km northwest of Tashkent. The city was built on the site of the ancient settlement of Shurcha. According to archaeologists, the settlement existed from the 4th century B.C. until the 4th century A.D.
Nukus is home to the Savitsky State Museum of Art. It boasts the best art collection in the Asian region: the second largest and most significant Russian avant-garde collection. The British newspaper The Guardian called it "one of the world's greatest museums" (Amelia Gentleman, Savitsky's secret hoard. The Guardian, January 1, 2001).
