On 13-16 July 2021, at the invitation of the Shandong Foreign Affairs Office, Deputy Secretary-General Grigory Logvinov visited the cities of Weihai, Yantai and Qingdao in the Shandong Province, People's Republic of China, as part of his participation in the 2nd Qingdao Multinationals Summit 2021.
During its visit, the SCO Secretariat delegation was shown around several institutes and companies to learn more about China's experience in promoting cooperation in commerce and trade, including with SCO countries.
Under the programme of the visit, the delegation toured the Guo Yonghuai Institute of Advanced Technology, the WEGO Group, the Shandong pilot free trade zone in the Yantai area, SAIC GM Dong Yue Motors and the Shinho Food Education and Experience Centre.
On 15 July 2021, Deputy Secretary-General Grigory Logvinov attended the opening ceremony for the 2nd Qingdao Multinationals Summit and met with officials from the Shandong Foreign Affairs Office and deputies of the Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party.
Sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the People's Government of the Shandong Province, the Qingdao Multinationals Summit is an international forum which demonstrates China's moves towards developing cooperation between transnational corporations and China in order to implement key development strategies for Shandong. The first summit was held in 2019, drawing 5,100 guests from different countries and private-sector leaders.
In 2018, on China's initiative, a China-SCO local economic cooperation demonstration zone was established in Qingdao.
