On 13 June 2021, the Republic of Tajikistan will hold the Dushanbe International Half Marathon (21 kilometres 97 metres) as part of its chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
Indicatively, the route of the official competitions was certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) based on the World Athletics rules. The competitions will abide by the anti-doping rules and international standards.
The SCO member states recognise the role of sports as one of the crucial tools of peace, social integration, and sustainable development. In 2019, the sides coordinated the Tajikistan-proposed Agreement between the Authorised Agencies of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation on Cooperation in the Area of Physical Fitness and Sports, and it was signed at the Bishkek Summit.

On 30 April, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov announced the Dushanbe International Half Marathon at a themed news conference dedicated to the 2021 marathons, which was held on the Badaling stretch of the Great Wall of China.
Persons registered within the established timeframe will be able to take part in the races. Applications for participation in the Dushanbe International Half Marathon in the Republic of Tajikistan are accepted by the Committee for Youth and Sports of the Republic of Tajikistan Government solely on an authorised letterhead.
