On 12-13 May 2021, Tajikistan chaired a regular meeting of the Joint Commission of International Road Transport Facilitation held in Dushanbe, partially via videoconference and partly in person.
During the meeting, members of the Joint Commission discussed topical matters linked with the state of approved international road transport routes, their readiness, the use of standard road transport permits, the operation of checkpoints during state-level COVID-19 response efforts, as well as the matter of simplifying procedures for issuing and obtaining visas for drivers, including e-visas.
The attendees included representatives of SCO member states, the Republic of Belarus and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
The Joint Commission is the main mechanism for coordinating and implementing the SCO Member States' Agreement on International Road Transport Facilitation, signed by the SCO countries' governments in Dushanbe on 12 September 2014.
