SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov will take part in an international videoconference titled "The Role of Youth in Countering Radicalism, Extremism and Terrorism" to be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on 18 February, 2021.
The event is hosted by the Agency for Youth Affairs, the Interior Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Youth Union of Uzbekistan, German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the OSCE and UNDP project coordinators in Uzbekistan, and the UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia.
The participants will discuss the political and legal principles of combating extremism and radicalism among young people, strengthening cooperation between the state and civil society, and preventing related propaganda online and in the media.
Representatives of the UN, the OSCE, the EU, and international experts from the United States, Russia, China, Great Britain, Germany, India, Japan, Afghanistan, and Central Asian countries will attend the forum. Uzbek senators, deputies, activists from the Youth Union of Uzbekistan, scientists and members of the media were invited as well.
The conference includes four sessions:
1. "The legal and institutional framework for countering terrorism and youth radicalisation: International and national aspects;"
2. "The role of civil society institutions in countering radicalism, extremism and terrorism among young people;"
3. "Innovative approaches and the role of youth organisations in preventing extremism and terrorism;"
4. "Preventing extremism online and in the media."
