During a working trip to Tianjin, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov had a meeting with President of Nankai University Cao Xuetao on 19 January 2021.
Vladimir Norov updated his counterpart on the SCO countries' cooperation in the fields of science and education. He pointed out that the SCO Charter provides for the development of interaction in science, technology and education as a key sphere of collaboration within the SCO framework. The legal structure for such joint work is set out in the 15 June 2006 Agreement on Cooperation in Education between the governments of the SCO member states. He added that the SCO member states were successfully implementing the SCO Development Strategy until 2025, which stipulates practical measures for stimulating joint efforts in the field of education.
President of Nankai University Cao Xuetao spoke about the university's achievements since its establishment in 1919 and its huge contribution to China's innovative development. He noted that Nankai University was regarded as one of the best classical institutions of higher education in the country. Its main feature is an ideal balance between humanities and sciences. The university comprises 26 colleges in the fields of liberal arts and science. Its college on international relations conducts research and provides consultations to China's government agencies.
Cao Xuetao pointed out that Nankai University has exchange agreements with many universities and expressed interest in deepening cooperation with the SCO member states.
Nankai University was established in 1919. It is a key multidisciplinary and research-oriented university under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education noted for its high education and research standards.

Nankai University is ranked 12th in China and is in the top 150 universities in the world according to Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2012.
