On 8 December 2020, the trade and economic potential of the port city of Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, was presented at the SCO Secretariat. The event was organised by the SCO Secretariat and the People's Government of Lianyungang City.
Attendees included permanent representatives from the SCO member states to the SCO Secretariat, representatives of SCO observer states and dialogue partners, heads of trade delegations and economic councilors from the SCO Family countries' embassies, as well as representatives of the Arab League.
SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov greeted the attendees and noted in his welcoming remarks that the city of Lianyungang and the SCO had established strong and friendly ties. A successful roundtable discussion on the SCO states' logistics and transport capabilities was held in December 2019. Agro-industrial cooperation among the SCO countries is increasing and becoming more productive. The SCO Secretariat has become a permanent participant in the annual agricultural exhibition in Jiangsu Province.
Mr Norov emphasised that the city's considerable trade and economic potential, stable ties with the SCO member states and a ramified logistics infrastructure could help unlock the SCO region's rich potential and create new growth points for mutually beneficial trade and economic and transport cooperation.
Lianyungang Mayor Mr Fang Wei, Deputy Mayor Ms Wu Haiyun and representatives of major city companies addressed the event participants, made presentations and answered questions.
