On 6 November, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov visited the headquarters of Pinduoduo, one of the largest e-commerce marketplace operators in China, during a working trip to Shanghai.
During a meeting with Senior Vice President at Pinduoduo Andre Zhu, Vladimir Norov pointed out the importance of boosting e-commerce in the SCO countries amid the pandemic in order to stabilise employment and maintain the reliability of the global supply chain. He noted that e-commerce, an innovative method of trade, is promoting a fundamentally new quality of supplier-consumer interface regardless of geography and socio-political boundaries.
Andre Zhu informed the SCO Secretary-General on the work of Pinduoduo, primarily its active involvement in small towns and rural areas. He emphasised that this approach helped to attract the maximum number of users and also to satisfy the consumer requirements of people in outlying regions.
He also conveyed the Pinduoduo management's readiness to develop ties with the SCO countries' business communities, in particular when it comes to assistance to the export/import of agricultural products and food.
Pinduoduo Inc. was founded in 2015 and is now the second largest e-commerce marketplace operator in China with 683 million active users and $100 billion in market valuation.
