On 23 April SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov met with Chair of the Beijing Research Association for Social Development and Environmental Protection Zou Mingchun at the SCO Secretariat.
Vladimir Norov thanked the association for its assistance to SCO member states in their struggle against the pandemic and expressed confidence that it would help curb the further spread of the coronavirus within the SCO area.
The Secretary-General told his guest about the spread of the coronavirus in the SCO member countries as well as the measures being taken by their governments to combat the disease.
Vladimir Norov expressed appreciation for the resolute and effective measures taken by the Chinese government, the people, major companies and organisations, including the association, in stopping the virus.
"Through great effort, China has helped the world gain time in its fight against the coronavirus and is assisting foreign countries by generously sharing its experience, medical supplies and protection devices," said Vladimir Norov.
In the effort to restore the economy and minimise the unfavourable effects of the pandemic as soon as possible, the Secretary-General suggested implementing joint projects for urgent aid to the countries in the region and assistance in environmental protection.
Zou Mingchun thanked the Secretary-General for the support of and solidarity with the Chinese people at such a difficult time. He talked about China's intention to help SCO member, observer and dialogue states in their struggle against COVID-19.
Zou Mingchun also expressed interest in carrying out joint projects in public health, transport, logistics, agricultural processing, etc, in the SCO member states.
The Beijing Research Association for Social Development and Environmental Protection is a non-governmental organisation. It unites experts, business people and public figures in politics, the economy, ecology, medicine, etc. Its objective is to study societal development and promote such initiatives as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Integration Plan, the Belt and Road Initiative, Beautiful China, Healthy China, etc.
