The message reads:
"Your Excellency,
In this difficult hour for Iran, I have the honour to send you a message of sympathy and deep condolences over the increasing number of victims of the new pneumonia caused by novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The people of Iran are fighting the coronavirus selflessly and courageously under your guidance. I am sure that Iran will soon overcome the disease, which has hit the whole world.
The spread of the new coronavirus, which has become a pandemic, is threatening the welfare of humankind. It is an additional reason why the international community must join forces. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is expressing its solidary and all-round support for the people and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran in their fight against the disease.
I have no doubt that the wise and strong people of Iran, with their centuries-long history, will overcome all these trials and tribulations.
Your Excellency, please be assured of my highest esteem and regard."
According to recent updates, there are 16,169 coronavirus patients in Iran, 988 of whom have died, with 5,389 having recovered.
The SCO member states (China, Russia and Uzbekistan), several European countries (France, Britain and Germany), Middle East countries (Qatar and the UAE), as well as international organisations (WHO and UNICEF) have sent humanitarian aid to Iran, including personal protective equipment and medicine.
