SCO Secretary-General meets with President of MODUL University Vienna

On March 5 in Vienna, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov met with President of MODUL University Karl Woeber.

They discussed prospects for organising joint events to promote tourism and establishing cooperation between MODUL University and higher educational institutions in the SCO member states.

Vladimir Norov spoke about the biggest tourism cooperation projects between the SCO member states, including the Eight Wonders of the SCO project embracing the national treasures of India (Statue of Unity), Kazakhstan (Tamgaly Archaeological Complex), China (Daming Palace Ruins of Tang Dynasty), Kyrgyzstan (Lake Issyk-Kul), Pakistan (the Mughal heritage in Lahore), Russia (The Golden Ring), Tajikistan (Navruz Palace) and Uzbekistan (Poi Kalyan architectural ensemble).

Vladimir Norov and Karl Woeber exchanged views on the training of tourism professionals including guides, tourist group supervisors, hotel employees and other hospitality specialists. The SCO Secretary-General spoke about the higher educational institutions in the SCO member states that focus on tourism and hospitality services.

Karl Woeber outlined the most recent trends when it comes to the development of European tourism policy such as improving the railway infrastructure, organising individual tours and offering new attractive routes. He invited Vladimir Norov to take part in the European Cities Marketing International Conference & General Assembly in Poland in June 2020.

He also brought up with Vladimir Norov the activities of the University of MODUL Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, in particular, the development of tourism policies and products, analysis and forecasting of

demand in the industry, as well as the introduction of information technologies in the tourism and hospitality sector.

An agreement was reached to continue contacts in the interests of intensifying tourist exchanges and improving the level and quality of services provided.
