On 15 February, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Damdin Tsogtbaatar on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
In the course of their conversation, Mr Norov remarked that the SCO attached much importance to collaboration with Mongolia as an observer country. He also said that the SCO was planning 47 events in 2020, which Mongolian partners could attend in keeping with the 2019 Roadmap.
He noted that Mongolia had high potential and was welcome to join the SCO's transport corridor project and the joint IT and communications projects. He also informed Mr Tsogtbaatar about the SCO Secretariat's exeternal ties aimed at promoting contacts with various multilateral associations.
The Mongolian Foreign Minister underscored the SCO's great importance as a major regional venue for dialogue and ensuring more trust between states. He noted that the SCO had strong cultural and civilisational underpinnings, because ties between SCO Family nations were deeply grounded in history.
He said that Mongolia was highly motivated to expand economic cooperation with SCO countries, with the aim of creating new jobs and improving the wellbeing of people.
The sides have agreed to continue working contacts.
