On 7 February 2020 Head of the SCO Observer Mission monitoring the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, Deputy SCO Secretary-General Sherali Jonon, met with Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev.
Mr Hajiyev thanked the SCO Mission for its active participation in the observer activities and expressed readiness to assist it in every possible way.
The two officials discussed the relations between the SCO Secretariat and Azerbaijan in terms of stepping up cooperation in practical areas.
Sherali Jonon highly praised Azerbaijan's initiative to hold the international conference "SCO member states' main transport routes and North-South and East-West corridors as a keystone for connectivity and joint development" on 21-22 April 2020 with the planned attendance of SCO countries. Mr Jonon highly praised Azerbaijan's initiative to hold the international conference and went on to stress that by hosting the event Azerbaijan will make a substantial contribution to the advancement of the multi-thronged cooperation within the organisation.
The Deputy SCO Secretary-General thanked the Azerbaijani side for the favourable conditions created for observing the preparations and arrangements related to the electoral process.
The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
