On 14 November 2019, SCO Deputy Secretary-General Xie Xiaoyong met with Lidia Yermoshina, Head of the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus on Elections and Republican Referenda.
Lidia Yermoshina thanked the SCO Deputy Secretary-General for his decision to chair the SCO Observer Mission to monitor the preparation and holding of the parliamentary elections in Belarus.
She also updated her Chinese colleague on Belarusian election legislation and the specific components of the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives, the lower house of the parliament of Belarus, and wished the SCO Observer Mission every success in its work in Belarus.
Xie Xiaoyong expressed appreciation for the Central Commission's preparations for the election and the broad media coverage of the process. He also told the Belarusian official about the Observer Mission's plans under the SCO concept of monitoring elections and vote counting, aimed at ensuring the objectivity and representative nature of the election.
The head of the SCO Observer Mission wished the Belarusian official every success and expressed confidence in the further development and strengthening of Belarus's independence.
