On 13 November 2019, the SCO Observer Mission began monitoring the preparations for and holding of elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
The Mission is led by SCO Deputy Secretary-General Xie Xiaoyong.
The Mission comprises 17 observers representing the legislative, executive and electoral bodies of the SCO member states, as well as officials from the SCO Secretariat and RATS.
The members of the Mission will monitor elections in three cities, namely in Minsk, Mogilev and Brest, as well as in smaller municipalities in the Minsk, Mogilev and Brest regions.
The SCO Observer Mission will operate in the Republic of Belarus from 13 to 18 November 2019 in accordance with the Regulations on the SCO Observer Mission at Presidential and/or Parliamentary Elections and Referendums, dated 15 May 2006.
