On 1 November 2019 SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov met with Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Ulziisaikhan Enkhtuvshin on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO member states in Tashkent.
The parties exchanged opinions on the further development of Mongolia's interaction with the SCO, as an observer state.
The Secretary-General briefed his partner on SCO activities and the main results of the Heads of State Council meeting for the SCO member states held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan in June of this year. "The Bishkek Declaration of the Heads of the Member-States laid special emphasis on the need to continue involving the observer states in practical activities in the economic and humanitarian areas," Vladimir Norov noted.
He also underscored the fact that last May the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers approved the Road Map for the Development of the Interaction of the SCO Secretariat with the Observer States and Dialogue Partners, which unveils broad opportunities to deepen cooperation with them.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia praised the organisation's activities and expressed interest in stepping up cooperation with the SCO countries in ensuring regional security, developing social infrastructure, transit potential, as well as holding SCO events in Mongolia.
The meeting was held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere.
Mongolia has been an SCO observer state since 2004.
