On 28 September 2019, the SCO Secretary General held a meeting in York with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamadyarov.
During the conversation the sides shared opinions on further expansion of Azerbaijan's cooperation with the SCO as a dialogue partner.
The Secretary General briefed his interlocutor on the major results of the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting in Bishkek which was held in June of this year. "The heads of state specially highlighted in their Bishkek Declaration the need to further actively engage SCO dialogue partners in practical activities on matters of the economy as well as cultural and humanitarian areas," Vladimir Norov stressed.
He also noted that in May the Council of Foreign Ministers of the SCO approved a roadmap for the development of interaction with observer states and dialogue partners, which will open up vast opportunities for deepening cooperation with them.
Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister highly praised the organisation's efforts and expressed Azerbaijan's readiness to interact more closely with the SCO in mutually beneficial areas. He expressed a special interest in establishing Azerbaijan's cooperation with SCO countries in transport, including by participating in respective projects of the organisation and holding joint thematic events.
The meeting was held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere.
The Republic of Azerbaijan has been a SCO dialogue partner since March 2016.
