On 28 September 2019, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov had a meeting at the United Nations Headquarters in New York with State Secretary of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Uch Borit.
The Secretary-General briefed his interlocutor on SCO activities and prospects for enhancing cooperation with dialogue partner nations. He placed special attention on the Roadmap for stepping up interaction with observer-countries and SCO dialogue partners, which was approved last May and opens up new opportunities for a closer cooperation of the above countries with the Organisation.
Vladimir Norov pointed out that the SCO Development Strategy leading up to 2025 envisions the steadily mounting cooperation of the Organisation with its dialogue partners via establishing a mechanism for regular consultations.
Uch Borit highly praised the SCO's activities and noted that the Organisation could become an effective platform for strengthening cooperation between its member-states and Cambodia. He stressed that the Kingdom is ready for comprehensive cooperation with the SCO in mutually beneficial areas.
The State Secretary gave high praise to The Eight Wonders of the SCO, an initiative put forward by the SCO Secretariat, and expressed the Cambodian side's interest in participating in the project. He also suggested holding joint forums designed at promoting tourism.
The parties exchanged views on stepping up SCO's relations with ASEAN, with Cambodia being one of its members, including the establishment of contacts between foreign ministries, holding joint events that would take on countering new challenges and threats, while further promoting commercial, economic, and cultural and humanitarian ties.
