On 26 September 2019, SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal Pradeep Kumar Gyawali in New York City. Opinions were exchanged on further expanding collaboration between the Organisation and Nepal as an SCO dialogue partner.
The SCO Secretary-General reported on a roadmap to expand collaboration with observer states and dialogue partners, passed by the SCO Foreign Ministers Council in May 2019. The document opens up broad opportunities for increasing cooperation between SCO member states and SCO dialogue partners.
Mr Norov also noted that the SCO Development Strategy until 2025 called for strengthening cooperation between the Organisation and its dialogue partners by streamlining a mechanism of regular consultations and by involving them in events under the auspices of the SCO.
The Secretary-General also acquainted the Minister with the main results of the SCO summit held in Bishkek and various other events, scheduled to be held during Russia's presidency of the Organisation in 2019-2020.
The Foreign Minister of Nepal praised the Organisation's activities and said Nepal was interested in taking part in SCO events aimed at maintaining regional stability and security and expanding trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.
The Republic of Nepal has had the status of SCO dialogue partner since March 2016.
