On 13 May 2018, Renmin University of China unveiled the Chinese-language edition of the book "SCO: Assertion, Development, Prospects" by SCO Secretary General Rashid Alimov.
500 leading academics, experts on SCO affairs, representatives of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, as well as professors and students of Renmin University of China gathered for the event.
Opening the presentation ceremony, Professor Guan Xueling, Director of the Centre of Russian Studies at Renmin University of China and St Petersburg State University, noted that the book was a priceless SCO asset.
Jin Nuo, Secretary of the University's Communist Party Committee and Deputy Chair of the All-China Women's Federation, noted the SCO's important role in strengthening interstate ties and expanding friendship among nations. Academics are studying SCO activities more actively, and the book on the SCO is of great interest to them as well as to experts and to the Chinese public at large. She expressed confidence that the "SCO encyclopaedia" would provide an insight into the SCO's goals, tasks and activities.
"It is highly symbolic that this book's publication is timed to coincide with the upcoming summit of the leaders of SCO member-states that will take place in the new ‘Shanghai Eight' format. Renmin University of China, the translators' team and the publication's editors have thus made a major contribution to the preparations for the SCO's summit in Qingdao," Mr Alimov noted.
Wang Xianju, head of the translators' team and Deputy Director of the Centre of Russian Studies, called the book an "SCO encyclopaedia" that was now available to Chinese leaders.
A Russian-language version of Mr Alimov's book "Shanghai Cooperation Organisation: Assertion, Development, Prospects" was published in 2017. Experts from the Centre of Russian Studies at Renmin University of China and St Petersburg State University translated the book into Chinese.
