On 25 October 2017, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan Kozimzhon Kamilov opened the 12th meeting of Supreme Court chairpersons of the SCO member states.
The meeting, which is underway in Tashkent, is being attended for the first time by a delegation from the SCO Secretariat led by SCO Deputy Secretary-General Sabyr Imandosov.
The SCO Deputy Secretary-General said in his remarks that interaction between Supreme Court chairpersons from the founding SCO states is playing a special role and complements the unique practice of multilateral cooperation that has developed within the organisation.
Sabyr Imandosov also spoke about the results of the SCO summit in Astana, which became a major international event that reaffirmed the high international status of the SCO. The organization has "successfully stood the serious test of time and has attracted international attention by its dynamic development," the SCO Deputy Secretary-General said.
Mr Imandosov highlighted the documents that were adopted at the Astana summit, in particular, the SCO Convention on Counteracting Extremism and the Statement by the SCO Heads of State on Joint Counteraction to International Terrorism. "These documents are designed to help strengthen the international legal framework for dealing with new challenges as well as threats and also for enhancing the efficiency of cooperation between the concerned agencies of the SCO member states," he said.
The meeting of Supreme Court chairpersons will resume during the afternoon of 25 October. Its agenda includes reports by delegates, together with discussions on the reform of the judicial and legal systems of the SCO member states and on resistance to the recruiting of young people into terrorist and radical structures.
The Supreme Court chairpersons will adopt a joint statement following the meeting.
