On 17-20 October 2017, China chaired a meeting of the SCO Council of National Coordinators in Beijing.
The meeting's agenda included over 30 issues in preparation for the 16th meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (Prime Ministers) and the meeting of ministers responsible for foreign economic and foreign trade activities. The sides conducted an engaged exchange of opinions regarding the SCO's plan of main events for 2018.
Meeting participants also discussed preparations for the upcoming meetings of justice ministers and supreme court chairmen of the SCO member-states in Tashkent in the second half of October 2017, heads of services responsible for the sanitary-epidemiological wellbeing of the public in Sochi, upcoming meetings at the expert level, including the Special Working Group on customs cooperation of SCO member-states in Moscow.
National coordinators reviewed the results of the 20 September 2017 extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of SCO Member-States on the sidelines of the 72nd UN General Assembly in New York, the 11 October 2017 meeting of the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group in Moscow and the work of the SCO Pavilion at the international specialised exhibition Expo 2017 Astana. In addition, meeting participants heard a report of the Mission of Monitors from the SCO that observed the preparations for and holding of elections of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic on 15 October 2017.
Members of the SCO Council of National Coordinators adopted the agreed-upon decisions and recommendations on upcoming economic and cultural-humanitarian events, as well as other issues on the SCO agenda.
The SCO Council of National Coordinators coordinates SCO activities and cooperation between relevant SCO ministries and departments.
The People's Republic of China holds the rotating SCO chairmanship in 2017-2018.
