The 7th meeting of the SCO Special Working Group on Investment Encouragement was held in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, on 26-27 April under the chairmanship of Tajikistan.
During the meeting, experts exchanged views on implementing the SCO Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation with respect to investment cooperation and the section "Trade and Economic Cooperation" of the Action Plan for 2016-2020 on Implementation of the SCO Development Strategy toward 2025.
There was also a wide-ranging discussion of measures to promote investment within the Organisation, including progress on preparing an investment compendium.
Safarali Kurbonzoda, Head of the Main Directorate for Investments and Coordination of External Aid of the State Committee for Investments and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan, noted that "promoting investment is an important part of the trade and economic cooperation of the SCO member states. The Special Working Group on Investment Encouragement is playing an increasingly important role in discussing important issues related to developing cooperation on promoting investment within the SCO. As the chair of the working group, Tajikistan is willing to make every effort to step up investment cooperation between the member states of the Organisation."
The SCO Special Working Group on Investment Encouragement was created in March 2004 and operates as part of the Council of External Trade and Economy Ministers of the SCO Member States with an eye towards implementing the provisions of the SCO Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation.
